Did you know?

For thousands of years, frankincense, the resin of the Boswellia tree, has been used not only as an aromatic incense, but above all in Ayurvedic medicine as an anti-inflammatory remedy. The so-called Frankincense Road is one of the oldest trade routes in the world and led from present-day Oman to the Mediterranean port of Gaza and to Damascus. Frankincense is the dried resin of the Boswellia trees. Not all species contain anti-inflammatory boswellic acids in appreciable quantities.

Boswellia serrata, the Indian frankincense, is one of the best studied frankincense species with a high content of boswellic acids. They are considered to have an anti-inflammatory effect. They block the activity of the enzyme 5-lipoxygenase, a key enzyme in inflammation1. Scientific research has focused particularly on the boswellic acid AKBA (acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid), which is considered as a measure of quality of different types of frankincense.

Boswellia Frankincense capsules from ZeinPharma® are characterized by a very high content of boswellic acids. In clinical studies, positive influences of frankincense extracts could be observed in various inflammatory diseases such as arthritis2, chronic inflammatory bowel-3 and respiratory diseases such as bronchial asthma4. In another study, a positive effect was shown in psoriasis5.

Frequently asked questions

What is HPLC?

HPLC (high performance liquid chromatography) is a method for analyzing substances that has a very good separation performance and reliably describes the type and quantity of the individual components of the substance to be analyzed down to the smallest detail. The amount of AKBA (2%) in ZeinPharma® Boswellia Frankincense capsules was confirmed using the HPLC method.
Boswellic acids occur naturally in the resin of the frankincense tree (Boswellia) and belong to the group of terpenes (secondary plant substances). They are considered to have an anti-inflammatory effect.
A measure of the quality of the different varieties of frankincense is considered to be the boswellic acid AKBA (acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid), which is particularly in focus of scientific research.
Not all of them contain anti-inflammatory boswellic acids in significant amounts. Boswellia serrata, the Indian frankincense, is one of the best studied frankincense species with a high content of anti-inflammatory boswellic acids.
The use of the capsules is independent of the time of day. So, you can use them when it suits you best. The absorption of boswellic acids in the organism can be increased by simultaneous intake of high-fat meals6.
