Vicia faba, also known as field bean, belongs to the family of legumes. Its use goes back many years, as early as 6000 BC, the field bean was already cultivated. Gradually, it spread as a crop from the southern Mediterranean to Central Europe. In addition to the main components such as carbohydrates and proteins, the up to 2 meters high field bean also contains the amino acid levodopa (L-dopa). Even though the plant's beans contain L-dopa, they are not suitable as a source of levodopa in the normal diet because it is mostly destroyed during cooking.

L-dopa is a precursor of dopamine, an important neurotransmitter in the human brain. Dopamine is involved in the control of motor, mental and emotional reactions. But also plays an important role in the regulation of the cardiovascular system, food intake and hormone secretion1. L-dopa can cross the blood-brain axis to be subsequently converted to dopamine in the brain2. Researchers are trying to take advantage of this, for example, in some scientific studies positive effects of L-dopa could be achieved for patient with restless legs syndrome3.

Vitamin E is a group of fat-soluble substances that are essential for human health. Since the body cannot produce them itself, a sufficient intake is important. Vitamin E is contained in nuts and vegetable oils. The vitamin E contained in L-Dopa+ 105 mg capsules in the form of D-α-tocopheryl acetate already covers 83 % of the daily recommended intake and thus ideally protects your cells from oxidative stress.
